STARS Research and Education Conference
First Annual STARS Research and Education Conference
On September 13, the first-ever STARS Research and Education Conference — jointly sponsored by Saint Louis University School of Medicine and STARS — brought together researchers, speech-language pathologists, therapists, advocates, and individuals who stutter for a full day of learning, collaboration, and inspiration. Attendees earned continuing medical education (CME) credits while exploring the latest advancements in stuttering research and treatment. The conversations highlighted what’s possible when science, compassion, and lived experience come together.
The day concluded with a moving keynote from two-sport All-Star Bo Jackson, who shared a deeply personal story of his lifelong journey with stuttering, including the experiences of his children, sisters, and family. As he said: “I’m more comfortable speaking to all of you than I was sitting on a bench, because I see people here who are exactly like me. If down the road this organization is successful in finding a cure for this, I’ll be right there with you.”
This was more than a conference — it marked the start of a movement. Together, attendees found their voice, their purpose, and momentum for meaningful change.
