The Neurobiology and Pharmacologic Treatment of Stuttering
Founder and President of STARS, Gerald A. Maguire, MD, and STARS Scientific Advisor, Shahriar SheikhBahaei, PhD, both persons who stutter, co-chaired a symposium highlighting new advancements in the neurobiological understanding of stuttering and emerging directions in neuropsychopharmacologic treatment. Stuttering affects over 4% of children and persists into adulthood for more than 1% of the population, yet no treatments currently hold regulatory approval, supporting the significant unmet medical need driving STARS’ research mission.
