Embora o apoio para a gaguez esteja frequentemente dispon\u00edvel na primeira inf\u00e2ncia, os adolescentes recebem, com frequ\u00eancia, muito menos apoio escolar \u00e0 medida que avan\u00e7am para o ensino b\u00e1sico e secund\u00e1rio. Neste estudo, a nossa equipa examinou a rela\u00e7\u00e3o entre a gaguez, a recusa escolar e o Transtorno de Ansiedade Social (TAS) em adolescentes no Jap\u00e3o.<\/p>\n

Os nossos resultados revelaram que 26% de adolescentes que gaguejam integravam o grupo de recusa escolar e que 50% cumpriam os crit\u00e9rios de diagn\u00f3stico para o Transtorno de Ansiedade Social. Os adolescentes do grupo de recusa escolar apresentaram pontua\u00e7\u00f5es de ansiedade social significativamente mais elevadas do que aqueles que frequentavam a escola regularmente.<\/p>\n

Importante, o fardo emocional da gaguez n\u00e3o estava simplesmente ligado \u00e0 frequ\u00eancia com que um aluno gaguejava. Adolescentes com Transtorno de Ansiedade Social (TAS) com\u00f3rbido eram mais propensos a ter sintomas f\u00edsicos como tremores nos membros e pensamentos negativos repetitivos sobre si mesmos ap\u00f3s gaguejar.<\/p>\n

Estes resultados sugerem que o apoio a adolescentes com gaguez deve ir al\u00e9m da flu\u00eancia da fala. A rastreio de ansiedade social, o reconhecimento de sinais f\u00edsicos de ansiedade e a abordagem de padr\u00f5es de pensamento negativos podem ser essenciais para prevenir a recusa escolar e melhorar os resultados.<\/p>\n
