Canadian Stuttering Association 2025 Conference

At the Canadian Stuttering Association 2025 Conference, attendees helped reach the fundraising goal of $15,000 CAD to support next year’s event in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Gerald A. Maguire, MD, attended in person to review results and connect with children, teens, adults who stutter, families, SLPs, coaches, and supporters. The conference brought the community together to learn, share experiences, and build meaningful connections.

The STARS (Stuttering Treatment & Research Society) held its successful inaugural Research & Education Conference on September 13, 2025, in Laguna Niguel, California, bringing together medical professionals to explore the latest in stuttering research and treatment. Highlights included expert panels on neurobiology, diagnostics, and therapies, as well as a keynote by athlete Bo Jackson, who shared his personal journey with stuttering. The event marks a major step in STARS’ mission to advance science-based understanding and care for stuttering.

Advancing Stuttering Research and Care: A Talk with Dr. Gerald Maguire

Dr. Gerald Maguire, an internationally recognized psychiatrist, researcher, and person who stutters, recently joined the Newfoundland and Labrador Stuttering Association to share his expertise on the neurobiology and treatment of stuttering. In his talk, Dr. Maguire explored the history and persistence of stuttering, the unique challenges faced by those who stutter, and the need for interdisciplinary approaches to care. He also introduced the Stars Stuttering Treatment and Research Society (STARS), a nonprofit organization he founded to advance neuroscience-based research, expand comprehensive treatment options, reduce stigma, and improve access to care for individuals who stutter.
